Usually the hardest thing about personal bible study for me is finding solitude — finding enough time free of distraction and stress to sit down and let the scriptures become first desirable, then available, and finally transforming. Surgeries are scheduled and anesthesia is given in doses to insure that a patient will remain in place for the duration of the operation. The work that God does through the reading of scripture also requires that we remain in place for the operation to come to completion. We need anesthesia for our souls. We need a Sabbath enforcer. We need solitude.
