Matt Smith and Linda Van Voorst are actually compiling a series of stories and parables to package and have printed as a book.

The goal is to put virtues of compassion and justice into story form to help parents as they teach their kids about mercy through Mission Kids.

This one’s for all the moms out there who always dreamed of writing kids stories!!

Here’s Linda’s e-mail and a slide with the details below:

Hey there,

I wanted to send you an email because I think you have the talent to write some really creative, fun kid parables for the book we are compiling and publishing, and I did not want you to miss out on the opportunity.  The deadline for this project is September 19th.  That gives you just over a month to write you a couple of stories!

The purpose of this book is to write imaginative stories that explain in story who our God is and what matters to Him- an explanation of virtue, so to speak.  We hope to get this book into the hands of parents at Antioch, and other churches, to help kids wrap their mind around who our God is so they can take confidence in Him and His love!  Kids learn by story, with their imagination, and by asking questions- this book uses all three in its strategy!  At the end of each parable, we will put a verse that connects the point with the Bible, and then write two or three questions to help prompt parents talk to their child about God-related topics.  We hope this book will help kids learn about God, and what matters to Him.

The guidelines are this:  If you simply follow a short story format, 500-600 words, that would be fantastic.   :)  I am interested in any entry along those lines following the prompt in the above paragraph!

The stories will be edited by a great editor, and illustrated by a professional and incredibly gifted graphic designer!

Let me know if you have any questions, and just think… How cool would it be to have your work published in a book that is read by parents around the state, country, maybe even further!  Books are an amazing way to teach kids, and what better to thing to teach them than Who our God is and What matters to them!

Feel free to forward this email on to a friend, family member, etc., who might want to get in on the fun!
Thanks!

Linda

Last week Antioch launched a pretty cool ministry to “help parents raise compassionate and mission minded kids.”

It is called Mission Kids.

Sometimes it is just plain hard for busy parents to find ways to serve alongside their kids or find opportunities to teach them about the needs of others in the world.

I’m pretty excited about Mission Kids being a part of helping the values of compassion and love that Tamara and I have trickle down to our own kids.

Anyway, yesterday the website www.missionkids.us went live. Check it out and read more about the ministry!!

This Sunday we are launching a program that is one of the coolest and, seemingly, most important that I’ve seen in a long time.

It is called “Mission Kids.”

Mission Kids simply exists to help parents raise compassionate and mission minded kids!

Parents who are compassionate or involved in ministry often wonder, “is any of this trickling down to my kids?” “Am I working really hard at serving others to the expense that I have a hard time discipling my own kids in this area?”

Mission Kids will be a simple focused effort to make it easy for busy parents to do biblical devotionals with their kids and then join them in events centered around service and compassion.
It will help parents teach kids about the world, other cultures, caring and meeting needs and how they can turn love into action.

There are a lot of crazy uncanny parts to the story of how this thing came about and where it is going, but I’ll leave that to Brandon Reynolds to share on Sunday morning at Antioch!
