I once wrote that the subtlest of all sins is ‘unjoy.’ It seems strange at first… how can not being joyful be bad? In order to untangle this we simply need to look at the nature of sin. The first part is obvious: doing things we’re not supposed to do (cheating, lying and stealing etc.).
The next best thing to reading a great book is recommending it to someone else. The joy is not just in getting to talk about something you have a passion for — rather, it’s the hope that someday, if they read it, there’ll be someone out there in this world that will actually know you.
